Too many books

I wish.

Do you save all of your books? How do you decide which books to save and which to get rid of?

My bookshelf is overflowing and I need to make room for some new books. So what do I do? Buying another bookshelf would be ideal, but I don't have the money or space for that.

I read books from the library and on my Nook, but I do buy them, too. I wouldn't say I have a ton of books, but I have enough that I can't fit them all on my bookshelf. Plus, I move every 1-2 years, and packing up and moving all those books is a big pain.

As much as I'd love to have several bookcases packed with books, that is just not practical until I get a house someday. So, it's time to get rid of some books. My sister is a teacher, so I plan on giving her some books to keep in her classroom. I plan on passing along a few to friends. The rest I will donate.

But how to decide which to keep and which to get rid of? I just worry that I'll want to read the book later on, even though I rarely ever re-read books.

So far I've decided I will only keep my absolute favorites and ones that are signed. Oh, and of course my complete collection of the Sleepover Friends, including the Super Sleepover Guide and Super Edition. I'm definitely keeping those.

  1. Sleepover Friends! I totally used to read those!

I know what you mean about too many books. I HATE to get rid of mine; they're almost like little literary diaries lining my shelves. I remember when and where I read most of them, so it hurts to ditch them. Still, I do trade ones I absolutely couldn't stand at my local new/used bookstore for credit. I'd be lying if I said it didn't hurt, though. :)

    1. I hate to get rid of mine, too! I was going through some last night and I wanted to keep them all. Now that you mention it, I do remember when and where I read a lot of my books!

  2. I'm glad I have my classroom library, so even when I get rid of the books in my (tiny) house, they are still "mine"

  4. I have my favorites that I'll keep forever. The rest I will sort through and decide by how attached I am. It's never easy to part with books.

Hope you're having a fabulous week!
